Blog No. 125: Harry Belafonte in Pictures, Poem by Tagore, Elephant Stories

May 13, 2023

Happy Mother's Day to all you wonderful mothers out there who make our world go round...

Harry Belafonte's Life in Pictures

Harry Belafonte 1927-2023

We lost a truly great one recently: Harry Belafonte. Here are a few pictures, featured on CNN.com that capture the life and legacy of this giant of a man.

Poem by Rabindranath Tagore

Where the Mind Is Without Fear
by Rabindranath Tagore

Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high
Where knowledge is free
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments
By narrow domestic walls
Where words come out from the depth of truth
Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfectionInto the dreary desert sand of dead habit
Where the mind is led forward by thee
Into ever-widening thought and action
Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake."

Secrets of the Elephants and other stories

I love a good animal story and I especially love elephants--their majesty, their intelligence, their strong familial bonds...This first video is about the group effort to rescue a baby elephant that will leave you feeling good not just about these incredible animals but also about the ability of humans to do good in the world.

And I recently watched the National Geographic series Secrets of the Elephants, which gives you a more comprehensive look at these magnificent creatures...The series is beautifully shot and makes us realize that they are so much more like us than we ever could imagine...Highly recommended!
